As the world teeters on the brink of annihilation, Dietrich Bonhoeffer joins a deadly plot to assassinate Hitler, risking his faith and fate to save millions of Jews from genocide. Dietrich Bonhoeffer was accused of being involved in the July 20 plot to assassinate Hitler, depicted in the film Operación Valquiria (2008), after Hans von Dohnanyi was accused of being the "spiritual leader" of the attempt. There is no evidence that either man was involved in that particular event, and he pretended to eliminate them both… Dietrich Bonhoeffer: Against stupidity we have no defense. Neither protests nor force can touch it. Reasoning is of no use. Facts that contradict personal prejudices can simply be disbelieved – indeed, a fool can counter them by criticizing them, and if they are undeniable, they can only be dismissed as trivial exceptions. I agree with other reviews who have found two major flaws in this film. .AUTHOR. The film tells us (in the scripts) that B has written many books on faith. However, the film itself never shows him writing or publishing or discussing any books. At most we see B writing his thoughts in a diary.ASSASSIN. Yes, historically there have been many failed plots to assassinate Hitler, and in fact the film shows us one such plot. But there are no facts in the film to show that B was ever arrested or charged for it. That is a very serious gap in the story. I am sorry, but I think B deserves a better script and a livelier story. The Tom Cruise film Valkyrie (a non-religious story) which depicts a failed assassination attempt on Hitler is a good example. The Bonhoeffer film could have used a lot more action to break up the tiresome conversations about faith in the face of evil.
